In its last publication entitled "Carbon Dots with Tunable Charge as Mucus-Penetrating Gene Carriers", the SNP team presents a new type of transfection vector obtained from “carbon dots” decorated with maleamic acid motifs. These new nanoparticles have been shown to deliver nucleic acid to mucus-protected cells with up to 10,000 times greater efficiency than undecorated nanoparticles. These results offer new opportunities for mucosal delivery (lung, digestive tract, cervico-vaginal cavity, eye) of gene therapy products.
