The CPS team has just published an article in Journal of Cell Science (The Company of Biologists) introducing SBIS, a new bright orange vital probe for 4D live imaging of brown algal cells.

In this study, the CBST (Strasbourg) and Dr Bénédicte Charrier from the IGFL (Lyon) teams designed styryl benzoindoleninium sulfonate (SBIS), a unique plasma membrane probe that performs efficiently in seawater, remains stable for days, and shows no toxicity. Compatible with confocal and light-sheet microscopy, SBIS enables the visualization of cell shape, growth, and dynamics in three dimensions and over time, paving the way for 4D imaging of brown algal embryogenesis.
